Success
Success is not related to the minds. Nowadays, people are eager to pursue money and power. They think if they have money and power, they can control things as they want. For them, to own things as much as they can is successful. However, they forget the feeling of happiness and the sense of achievement. I think success does not depend on how much people get but how happy they are. Although some people are not rich and powerful, they still lead successful lives. Why? Because they are contented with everything they have. They do what they want and enjoy it, and that is success.
I have heard a story about a poor old man, who is nearly seventy, and he doesn’t have any families to live with. As a result, he has to make money by washing dishes every day. Although he is not rich, he still tries to help the poor. He says that he believes some people need help more than he, so he wants to raise money for them. After knowing the story, I think he is a successful person. In some people’s views, he is poor and in a low status. He doesn’t have anything beautiful houses, expensive cars and any families to take care of him. However, he loves his life. He treasures it and feels satisfied with it. Most importantly, he does what he wants-- to help others, so he is a successful man for me.
Moreover, success also means people reach their goals after trying hard.If people can finish their works and be proud of them, it means “success.” Take me for example. I had a feeling of success when I was seventeen. At that time, we joined an English drama competition and everyone in my class should do her own work. I was responsible for making the properties and my best friend was the leader of the group. Therefore, both of us had to do most of the works. At first, we all thought it was easy; however, we had some difficulties as time went by. For instance, some of my group members never showed up and it made us spend more time doing the properties. In the end, we met a big problem. Because the properties were too heavy to stand on the stage, we had to find out a way to hold them. Finally, we solved the problem by sticking some paperboards on the properties. When I finished the works, I felt proud of myself. I spent a lot of time finishing my works and tried so hard to conquer many problems. For me, it was “success.”
I have read a book which explains the meaning of success. It says that “success is to do what you want and to be what you dream to be.” I totally agree with it because people can seldom do what they like, not to mention becoming what they dream to be. Therefore, if people can do that and enjoy their lives, it is easy to get the feeling of success.

Corporal Punishment
Proper corporal punishment is not to hit or beat students when they make mistakes. Instead, teachers will use suitable ways to make students know that they are wrong, such as asking them to do more homework, jog for twenty minutes, or clean the classroom after class. This way, students can be punished without getting hurt. Nowadays, many people object to corporal punishment. They are afraid that teachers will punish students in a harmful way. Besides, after being reprimanded by teachers, students may feel ashamed before their classmates, and it will influence their personalities. However, I think they are all stereotypes. Take me for example. I
was once punished by my teacher because I ate cookies in the class. At that time, the teacher didn’t scold me in public. She asked me after class not to do it anymore, and punished me to clean the classroom. In that way, I didn’t get physical punishment but I understood my fault and corrected it. Therefore, corporal punishment does not always hurt students.
Corporal punishment is a good way to prevent students from behaving badly. If students make mistakes but no one punishes them, they will not think they do something wrong. By getting corporal punishment, it is easy for them to understand their fault and correct it. They will remember the experience of being punished and try not to make the same mistakes again. Besides, they can also have moral concepts. However, some people do not support this practice. They think it is not useful to teach students by punishing them. Instead, teachers should teach students by “telling” them how to improve it. It seems like a good way to teach students.
However, hey forget that some students don’t respect teachers. If they make mistakes and teachers just tell them they are wrong without any punishment, they do not really care about it. Only if they get corporal punishment will they try to correct their behaviors. Therefore, I think students who respect teachers can be taught without any corporal punishment, but the bad students should be taught by some proper punishment.
Moreover, corporal punishment is a very fast way to make students behave well. In Taiwan, there are almost forty students in a class. If one of the students is noisy and keeps talking during the class, it will disturb the other students. By punishing the student immediately, it can make him be quiet in a short time and do not influence the other students. For instance, my junior high school classmate, Tom, was very rude. During the class, He often kept saying something impolite to my classmates and teachers. As soon as he started to annoy the other classmates, theteacher always asked him to be quiet right away. However, it was not useful to make him behave well. As a result, the teacher had to punish him to stand in the back of the classroom so that he would not interrupt the others. Maybe some people insist that teachers should teach students with patient and love, but when my teacher taught Tom step by step, he would not behave himself instantly and the other students could not concentrate on the class. So I believe that corporal punishment can teach students in a fast way and also make the other good students be educated
without any disturbance.
To sum up, I think proper corporal punishment has three merits: to teach students without hurting them, to teach them effectively, and to correct their behaviors fast. By getting proper corporal punishment, students will not get hurt. Instead, it can push them to do well and learn faster than before.

20
I am twenty now!!! On Sunday, I went to a restaurant with my friends. The resaturant was decorated by many special and cute things, however, the meal was not delicious. While eating the meal, Cindy asked me to read a paper. When I opened it, I found that was a card made by her, and everyone started to sing Happy birthday song. At that time, I was touched and happy :)
They bought a white hat as my present. I liked it! Anyway, I thought I would be fine in the future because I had so many friends.
The final oral exam was very interesting. I liked oral class because my teacher, Shuan, was a very smart, cute, and patient teacher. She always encourages me to speak English although my English oral ability is very poor. I think I will not meet her very often in the future, but I will remember everything she has taught me. I will miss her.

A wonder trip :)
This Sunday, I went to a farm with many of my classmates. I got up very early because I was afraid of being late. The weather was good and hot, but we all expected that we would have a nice trip :)
After going on the bus, we started to sing many popular but old songs. It seemed that we all live in the old age, ha ha ha...... Because of singing, everyone was in the high spirit and thought time passed very soon. After two hours, we arrived the farm.
As soon as I went off the bus, what I thought was-" Oh my God, it was too hot!!!" But what I could do was to bear it. Oh, I did hate sunshine :(
When it was about 12 o'clock, we went to have BBQ. It was good to eat BBQ with my friends and we chatted a lot with each other.
In the end, we took many pictures with sunflowers. We were energetic !!!

A lesson
Cindy and I explain to visit green island. At first, only she and me want to go trip together. However, if four people go to green island together, it would be cheaper. Therefore, I invited some of my classmates and it seemed that they were interested in the trip. Unluckily, they did not think about twice before they said they would like to go with us. After I reserved the room, some of them said that it was too expensive for them to afford it. At that time, I was not happy :( I had told them that how much would we spend and ask them to count it before they accepted my invitation, and they promised. However, they did not. I thought they were not responsible. Anyway, Cindy, Monica, and I would go to green island together. They are two of my best friends in the class, and I think we will have fun!!!

Life
On Wednessday, Monica and I went to an Italian restaurant. We enjoyed tasty meals and also talked a lot. I told her that I did not want to live with others because I thought I would quarrel with my room-mates. Both of us all agree that if people are too close to each other, they will have quarrels easily. Therefore, people should do some things by themselves instead of doing everythings with their friends. Sometimes people should enjoy being alone. As I as concerned, I like to talk with friends everyday, however, I also enjoy being alone at home. I always believe that it is impossible to keep in touch with friends forever. When people grow up, they may leave their hometown and seldom see their friends. Or if students graduate from school, it is easy to forget their friends because they don't meet each other anymore. I want to get used to being alone is because I know I can not keep in touch with my friends forever. There are too many reasons which will make us separate. Someday if they leave me or I leave them, I hope I would not cry and accept it peacefully. Cause it's life.

What I want is ...
Yesterday I received a mail from Jie, and he invited me to see his blog. I was surprised but happy because I like his writing styles very much. From his blog, I can always get new ideas and different thought about things. Sometimes I think my concepts are limited. I used to think some things from a specific point, however, I forget that things all have two sides. Now, I will try to think some things in different points, and try not to judge people whom I do not like. It is difficult, but I will try it :)

Plan
The second summer vacation was not as bad as before. I was the volunteer of a Chinese camp. Therefore, I went out with foreigners and chatted with them everyday. At that time, my speaking abilities improved a lot. However, I did not study English in that summer vacation, so I still felt regret.
This summer vacation is my third vacation in the college, and I think I need to change. Although I do not have money to go abroad, I still want to do a lot of things. Firstly, I want to go to computer classes. Secondly, I join the Chinese camp again, and I hope I could make many foreign friends. Thirdly, I will go to cram school to learn Japanese. Besides, I also want to read a lot of novels. I want a meaningful summer vacation!!!

Midterm Week
On Saturday afternoon, we joined an English camp held by Monica's club. There were many situations and we played the different roles. For example, I was a waitress in the restaurant so the students had to learn how to order the meal. Most of the students were very cute and polite, and some students' English abilities were very good. It was very amazing for me to know that they have learned English for many years. One of the students, who is eleven years old, told me that she had learned Enflish for six years. I felt unbelievable because I started to learn English when I was eleven. Anyway, time has changed. To sum up, I found that I enioyed being a teacher. When they concentrated o in teh class, I felt satisfied. Maybe I can be a teacher in the future :)

Mountain Ali Day2
We stood and waited for the sun raise. At first, the scene was all dark. As time went by, the sky began to change its color, and we all expected the sun raise. However, everyone gave up after waiting for 2 hours, and so did us. Although we felt a little sad, we still think the scene was beautiful.
We walked in the forest. The air was flesh and we felt very comfortable. It was really good to walk in the mountain in the morning :) Coming back to the hotel and took our package, we went to 奮起湖.
奮起湖 is a historical town. There were a lot of old buildings. When we walked on the street, we felt that we were in the 1950. We ate the most famous meal box-railway meal box. It was expensive and very not very delicious :( Anyway, when we came back to the train station, my cousin took me to go around and Cindy went to Kaoshioung to visit her cousin.

Mountain Ali Day1
We started to walk in the mountain. The weather was really cold, but the scene was beautiful! Because of fog, we could not see the road clearly and it seemed we were in the paradise. There were a lot of thousand-year-old divine trees, as we walked in the forest, we imaged that we were Snow White who lived in it, but we did not have prince to protect us...
After we walked for almost two hours, we felt hungry and wanted to eat some food, so we bought some Japanese Tempura. Unfortunately, it was not delicious. We also went into a temple to pray. We wished our journey would be safe, and our families and friends would be happy and healthy forever. At about five o'clock, we were tired so we came back to the hotel.
Before we went to hotel, we bought some food. Frankly speaking, the food was very expensive!!! We havd no choise but to buy it because there were a few restaurants. We also saw starbucks there, and we all thought it was really strange to drink starbucks in Mountain A-li. In the end, we came back to hotel and ate dinner. After taking a bath, we went to bed at nink o'clock because we had to get up early to see sun raise.

Mountain Ali- Day 1
On Thursday morning, we took train to Chia yi at 7:30. As soon as we arrived there, we went to buy the train tickets to arrive Mountain Ali but they were sold out. Therefore, we had to take the bus to Mountain Ali. Unfortunately, the bus tickets were also sold out. In the end, we had to "STAND" on the bus!!! At first, we thought it was OK, moreover, there was a seat which noboby sat on so we sat in turns. However, after two hours, I started to feel dizzy so Cindy let me sit and then she stood.
Unexpectedly, Cindy also felt uncomfortable and even vomitted.
After three hours, we reached Mountain Ali. When we got off the bus, I felt much better but Cindy was still uncomfortable. Besides, she was very hungry. After eating some noodles, she got energy again and we went to the hotal to put our luggage. Then, we walked in the Mountain Ali. The weather was very cold and foggy, so we could not see the road clearly. However, we found the Mountain Ali train station very soon and bought some postcards. After leaving the train station, we went to the post office immediately and sent the postcards. The post office was very specil because it looked like a temple. Also, ther were many people who wrote the postcard there. It seemed that everyone wanted to share his happiness with his friends.
We all expected to see beautiful cherry blossoms, but what we saw were withered flowers. Because of rain, the cherry blossoms dried up sooner than before. Maybe we should go here earlier......

The camp of photography
On Sunday morning, we went to Lukang to take pictures. Lukang was a little far away from Taichung so we spent one hour to arrive there. As soon as we arrived there, it rained. All of us were very worried because it was impossible to take pictures in the rain. Luckily, it stoped raining after a while, and we went to Tienhou Temple as soon as we could.
There were a lot of visiters in Tienhou Temple, after going to the temple, we went around to find a good place to take pictures. We also visit Nine-turns Lane and Old market Street. I have never been to there so I felt very fun. By the way, I also made some new friends. It was very good to have some new friends by joining some activities.
Anyway, the camp was really good! I can't wait to see my pictures!
Movie
渺渺, who is a exchange student comes from Japan, is good at making cakes. As soon as she meets 小璦, she teaches her how to make cakes and they become good friends. One day, when she tries to find a cake store, she goes into a CD store unexpectedly. In that store, she falls in love with the owner of the store. She wants to know why he looks sad and refuses to hear the voice in the outside world. She tries her best to help him and asks 小璦 to give her some opinions, however, 小璦 finds that she loves 渺渺 much more than before.....
Actually, I like to watch homosexual movies because their love is very unpredictable and fantastic. This movie tells us that when people grow up, they will fall in love with someone.
Although love is sometimes bitter, people still can learn a lot from it. I think that teenagers always dream that they will find their true love someday, so they can be loved and to love.
After experiencing "love", they grow up and have a different thought about love. Take 渺渺 for example, when she says that it is the first time she meets someone who doesn't love her and meets another one who loves her, she has already grow up and know the meaning of love. She also learns that there is still someone who waits for her in the future....
To sum up, this movie is very great. I hope I could experience their feelings in the future.

Wonderful
On Sunday, I ate lunch with my teacher, his son, and some of my classmates. We ate beef, hot pot, some beef dumpings, and fried noodles. They were very delicious and we had a lot of fun. We talked a lot about English literature, novels, and the professors. Teacher told us that if we wanted to improve our English abilities, we should read more novels. I thought I would try as best as I could. Also, teacher's son studies in foreign languages and is good at it. By talking to him, we thought we should study hard.... By the way, teacher didn't look like his son but their personalities are quite similar with each other , ha ha ha. Anyway, it was a pleasure to eat lunch with a good and nice teacher :)

A new beginning
Because of some reasons, we have a new Japanese teacher. She is cute and nice, however, there is one thing makes me upset-I can't see the whiteboard clearly. Today we went to a new classroom, unfortunately, I forgot that we have to sit the seat we choose in the first time for the all semester. Therefore, I didn't arrive the classroom very early so the seats near the whiteboard were occupied by others. In the end, I had to sit far away from the whiteboard and I found that I couldn't see the whiteboard clearly. It made me really nervous because if I couldn't see it clearly, I had to spend a lot of time trying to know what the teacher writes on the whiteboard. In that way, I couldn't concentrate on the the contects of books while treacher explains them. Anyway, if next time I still have the same problem, I think I have to tell the teacher and also change my glasses :(
These days I went running at night by myself. It's very comfortable to do exercise at night because the weather is usually cool. I hope I can lose weight by doing exercise and become as thin as before. I don't know if I will succeed in the end, but I will try it as possible as I can.
To sum up, there are many good and bad things happened this week. Tomorrow I will have a date with Monica. After chatting with her, I think I will become happy again.

This semester
Today, I had a big meal with my roommates. We went to a beautiful restaurant and took a lot of pictures. The dish was not bad, most important of all, it was so nice to go out with friends. :)
Next Monday, I will come back to Tainan. I hadn't gone home for almost two months and I miss my parents so mach. I hope I could see them soon....
Foreign Brides (revised)
First, the most common problem is language. After coming to Taiwan, they have to learn
Chinese. It’s not an easy job because what they should learn are not only listening and speaking but also reading and writing. In order to communicate with the elder in their husbands’ family, they even have to learn Taiwanese. By going to schools, many foreign brides improve their languages a lot. However, there are many foreign brides who don’t go to school can’t learn Chinese well, and it causes communication problems. For example, when their children grow up, they may have some difficulties in their studies. If foreign brides can’t understand the contents in textbooks, how can they educate their children? Or if they can’t speak Chinese fluently, how can they communicate with their children’s teachers? In the end, maybe their children won’t have interest in studies because nobody can help them with the homework. It’s really a bad situation.
Second, cultural differences also cause adaptation problems. We usually have many different customs from them, such as food and religions. For instance, if they have specific religions, they may follow the rules that we have never heard of before. For some Taiwanese, it is hard to accept new religions and rules, so they will have conflicts. Also, because of the unique surroundings, they have their special concepts. In particular, Phillipine brides are much more open than Taiwanese brides. They enjoy drinking, singing, and dancing in everyday life. Even after getting married, they still have the same interest. However, Taiwanese people have different concepts. They think foreign brides shouldn’t go out all day. Instead, they should stay at home like traditional women and take care of children. Consequently, they may argue
because of the differences.
Third, they may be discriminated. For some foreign brides, the reason why they marry Taiwanese man is because they are poor. When they know that Taiwanese men are willing to marry them, they all want to take such opportunities to get rid of poor lives. Therefore, they come to Taiwan happily but find out that they are too naive. Many Taiwanese men think that they “buy” the foreign brides, so they can force them to do everything, such as looking after children and doing all the housework. They treat foreign brides as people they don’t need to treasure. What’s more, foreign brides are not allowed to go out to make friends. What they can do is stay at home and do the housework, and that’s why they become more and more lonely. As a result, many foreign brides can’t tolerate their lives anymore and flee to their own countries.
To sum up, there are three problems that foreign brides face in Taiwan: languages, customs, and discriminations. I think that after they marry to Taiwanese, they have already become part of us. Therefore, we should respect them. We should not discriminate against them but appreciate them and treat them as our families. In that way, our society will be better.

2009
After I came back home , I felt a little tired so I took a rest . At about 11:00, I went to school to visit my friend, Pauline. There were many venders and people in the school, and it seemed that where I went was not a school but a night market. I saw the wonderful performance and made the wishes with my friends. We all hoped that we could improve our English abilities and had a boyfriend, ha ha ha ........To sum up, 2008 was a nice year for me. I think that 2009 will be better because I still have a lot of friends who always support me and accomany me :)
